Princess Charlene of Monaco, Wife of Prince Albert II

Here is another athlete on our list – Princess Charlene Monaco. She’s a Zimbabwean-South African-born former Olympic swimmer. She is the wife of Prince Albert II. She was born in Zimbabwe but her family relocated to South Africa in 1989. She represented South Africa in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Her team, to their credit, finished fifth in the medley relay. It wasn’t until 2007 that she retired from competitive swimming. Reports say, however, it was because of swimming that Princess Charlene met her charming prince.

The couple met at the Mare Nostrum swimming competition in Monte Carlo, Monaco back in 2000. It wasn’t only six years after that they were seen together in public. Soon after, people saw Princess Charlene in the arms of Prince Albert during his official duties. The couple got engaged in 2010 and, barely a year after, they got married. The royal couple welcomed twins Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques in 2014.
